New Google Webmaster tool: Features added and removed

In April, Google announced their new Webmaster Tool with various tweaks and changes. There were a lot of features and structural changes to it that would help a lot of new webmasters who just got their website up and running. Here, we will discuss some of the new features of the new tool from Google

New and Improved Dashboard

This is the first change that you will notice when you first start the tool. The newly designed dashboard gives quick access to some common widgets like Crawl Errors, Search Queries and Sitemaps etc.

New Naming Conventions and Groups

Services are regrouped under new names according to their functions and features they have. The new groups are Configuration, Health, Traffic and Optimization.

New Structure View

This view gives you a compact look of all the websites that are linked with your account. This is a great thing for those webmasters who own or runs multiple sites.

Removal of Subscriber Stats

Since this feature is also available in the Feedburner offered by Google, it has been removed from the new version of the Webmaster Tool. This move has been made so that to motivate people to use specific products for specific purposes.

Removal of automated robots.txt generation

Previous webmaster tool was capable of automatically generating this file but since due to its limited usage in the modern sites, this feature is no longer available in the new version. However webmasters can create these files manually using any text editor.

Removal of Site Performance Feature

Just like the removal of robots.txt feature, this feature has also been demoted due to its limited usage. In contrast to that, Google is offering people to use Site Speed feature in Google Analytics or Page Speed feature to gather similar data.
